About

About This Project

This website was created as a fun experiment and a way to showcase some innovative engineering to solve real-world problems. At its core is a solar-powered radar sensor unit that captures the speed of passing vehicles and wirelessly triggers a PC connected to a security camera aimed at the road. When triggered, the PC captures a short section of the camera's video stream, which is then processed through several machine learning algorithms. These algorithms identify vehicles, locate their number plates, and use optical character recognition (OCR) to digitise the numbers.

Snapshots of the fastest and slowest vehicles over the past 24 hours are automatically sent to this website, providing a real-time overview of road activity. Additionally, the digitised number plate data can be used to analyse traffic trends, such as distinguishing local vehicles from "foreign" ones. The entire system—from the wireless radar sensing unit to the machine learning application—was designed and developed by me, Ron Segal.

About Me

I'm an electronics engineer and maker specialising in creating custom, end-to-end systems like this one. Operating out of my well-equipped lab and workshop, I manage the full spectrum of development—from specifying electronic circuits and PCB production to microcontroller firmware development and the physical design of enclosures, mounts, and other components. I often use 3D modelling and printing to create custom parts and develop software applications that process and make sense of the collected data, enabling automation and valuable insights.

With a wide range of skills, I build solutions that are both innovative and practical, always tailored to meet specific needs. Whether it's for monitoring, automation, or any other application that requires a reliable, customised approach, I'm committed to delivering high-quality results.

If you have a unique project idea or need a solution that involves hardware development, software integration, and data analysis, I'm here to help bring your vision to life.
